Functional Nutrition | Holistic Health | Straight Talk About Hormones
LET'S WORK TOGETHER TO GET THINGS BACK ON THE RIGHT TRACK.
Hi y'all. I'm Christine MacCarroll, and I'm a functional nutritionist, Board Certified in Holistic Nutrition, and specializing in women's health. Here's a little about me:
My mom tells me that my two first words were butterfly and cornbread. So you see, I’ve always appreciated the finer things in life: natural beauty and a great meal! Over my lifetime journey experiencing and learning about food, I’ve travelled many different paths, from vegetarian to paleo. The constant has been that I was always reading and learning—and I expect to never stop learning. I am a voracious reader, and I make it my business to know the latest science. Interestingly, the “latest” has led me to conclude that we really need to go back in time: farm food over factory food, butter over margarine, slow and local over fast and global.
As engaged as I’ve always been though, the real turning point came for me when my youngest daughter was diagnosed with a neurological speech disorder (apraxia). My “mama bear” instinct went into overdrive. Helping her heal became my main mission in life, and I spent countless hours reading, researching, desperately reaching for any help I could find. The best hope after all that reading seemed to be in nutrition. I armed myself with studies and articles and set out to find someone who would help guide us. It took me three active months to find anyone who would even talk to me, but as soon as I did, and we put together my girl’s nutritional protocol, profound changes took place in her speech. Today, you would never know that she had ever had any difficulties.
The change went beyond her though—it had radiated to me. A wildfire had been lit in my belly. I could not believe how much I still didn’t know after all my years of reading, and I really wanted to know all that I could and to spread the word to the wider world. So, after years of saying I’d never go back to school, I did just that. Balancing a full-time job, my second job as a mom, and school was quite challenging, but it’s one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. It’s now my passion and mission to be a guide for others who just want to feel GOOD and are confused by the fads, media, and ever-evolving dietary lingo.
Recently my formerly speech-challenged daughter (who does not seem to be able to STOP talking sometimes!) told me very seriously: “Mama, I just love to eat.” Amen, child. Me too. I love to eat. I spend a lot of time thinking about food, and the most nourishing foods to put into my own and family’s bodies, but it all boils down to enjoying your food and loving what it can do for you. Let’s eat.
